Hagurosan was awesome and we only had one “weird japan” experience. I was taking these pictures of the pagoda and in reality there were a lot of people around. You can see some of them but we timed the photos to try and not have random people staring at us taking them. But you can’t have everything in life, and as I was finishing up one photo I heard a quiet すみません。。。 I saw a guy trying to take a photo with a camera phone and got out of his way, but as it turned out his REAL goal was to get a picture of a white person standing in front of a Japanese cultural landmark. I can understand how that would be funny and interesting to a Japanese person, but it was just weird for me. I let him take it regardless as I wasn’t about to give a lecture on cultural sensitivity in my own sub-par Japanese. But it was weird. His family was with him too so it wasn’t just a random dude getting a picture of a white girl. Oh dear. Whatever, life goes on. The trees were beautiful.
