We didn’t hike even halfway in. The tori gates go all the way up the mountain like this. It’s not especially taxing, but hiking fushimi inari would take all day and we wanted to see other temples that day.
Ironically, the gates read “dedication.”
Although I don’t know what sort of “dedication” the kanji means- possibly it is referencing the fact that each gate is “dedicated” to someone or something. As this one shows;
